Why is it that there is always some sort of divide between humans instead of us being united?

The division is caused by the desire to have things the way we want them. We find it very difficult to share and give because we always want to receive.

Our reality revolves around the fulfillment of our own desires, and often at the expense of others. This tendency has led us to the global crisis we are now in. We are not making the connection between how we behave selfishly and how nature is reacting to us because of that tendency.

The typical reaction is to say that they are the cause of wars and climate extremes. The truth is that we each play our part in the way we treat each other on a daily bases. People cut each other off in traffic, they disrespect the server or store clerk. We argue with our neighbours and with family members and friends because of some trivial issue, pride, an opinion, a grudge.

All this negativity creates a wave of disconnection that spreads far and wide. The natural world is balanced. We are out of balance and nature always strives to maintain balance. When there is no balance, due to human action, we end up with loss of habitat, invasive species, contagious diseases, social unrest/wars and climate extremes.

The reality is that we are one humanity. On one level of existence we are connected. The illusion is that we are alone since we perceive through our senses.

If we can accept that we are connected then we can change our behaviour towards not doing to others what we hate. Unfortunately this is not something we can do alone. Enlightenment may start as a solo realization but the practise of it must be with like minded people who understand the difficulty of dealing with our default behaviour that is always favouring the pleasing of oneself.

Nature, as the force that seeks balance, presents us with issues that, if we are attentive, show us how we act selfishly at every turn. We see events through our personal lens and often fail to see from another’s point of view. We then engage in conflict, both on a personal and global level.

Global disasters bring us together in helping each other through difficult times. We think of the benefit of others. Once a crisis is over, we go back to our old ways of prejudice and practices that increase the divide between those who have and those who don’t.

The attitude of US and THEM will lead to a deadlier war. Are we willing to pay the price?
